7 Ways To Love
Ok, got this from Liz over at The American Mystery Deepens (still a great blog title, still a great blog) and have only just got a chance to do it. Sorry...
The rules: List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.
1. Boards Of Canada - 'Dayvan Cowboy'
The sound when the guitar comes in is just extraordinary. Always a great noise when an electronic group take something as ubiquitous as an electric guitar and put it in an entirely different context. It's almost like you're hearing it again for the first time. Also, a nice double plug oppurtunity. If you want to hear it, it's currently my song of choice on my brand spanking new MySpace profile: http://www.myspace.com/derekknight Yeah, yeah, I know...
2. Coldplay - 'Twisted Logic'
The marmite of rock hit me with another amazing album track from X&Y. I don't know why this line chimes with me, it just does:
Hundreds of years in the future3. Sway Feat Baby Blue - 'Little Derek'
It could be computers
Looking for life on earth
Little Derek wrote lyrics while the others got high4. Bright Eyes - 'At The Bottom Of Everything'
And he ended up in HMV instead of HMP
Cuz street life could only end one way
Your friend crying on the scene like why, why, why?
Little Derek's Ok yeah
Little Derek's doing fine fine
Little Derek's doing cool cool
You know how we do
We must blend into the choir, sing ecstatic with the wholeThe bliss of anonymity in a world that denies us just that. What's the song about? Impending disaster? Terrorism? Global warming? I'm not sure, but the release at the end is just amazing. A rock star proclaiming 'I am really no one'. Just an amazing song.
We must memorize nine numbers and deny we have a soul
Into this endless race for property and privilege to be won
We must run, we must run, we must run
We must hang up in the belfry, where the bats and moonlight laugh
We must stare into a crystal ball and only see the past
Into the caverns of tomorrow with just our flashlights and our love
We must plunge, we must plunge, we must plunge
And then we'll get down there,
Way down to the very bottom of everything
And then we'll see it, oh, we'll see it!,
Oh, we'll see it!, we’ll see it!
Oh, my morning's coming back,
The whole world’s waking up
All the city busses swimming past,
I'm happy just because
I found out I am really no one.
5. Kings Of Leon - 'The Bucket'
I'll be the one to show you the way
You'll be the one to always complain
3 in the morning come a bang bang bang
All out of fags and I just can't wait
Cancel the thing that I said I'd do
I don't feel comfortable talking to you
Unless you got the zipper fixed on my shoe
Then I'll be in the lobby drinking for two
Eigh-teen Bald-ing Star Gol-den Falling Hard
Sophomore album perfection from a band I initially dismissed out of hand. How very wrong I was.
6. Dilated Peoples - 'Back Again'
Don't worry if I write checks, I write rhymes.Oooh, take that, Diddy.
7. Wang Chung - 'Everybody Have Fun Tonight'
Everbody have fun tonightBest. Rhyming. Couplet. Ever.
Everybody Wang Chung tonight!
I'll tag whoever fancies doing it. Otherwise, it's all just a big popularity contest...!
