If you're going to have a Tuesday night in on your own, you might as well surround yourself with stuff which is gonna cheer you up and challenge you a bit. Hopefully a bit of both.
Beans on toast. A criminally underestimated tea. Really quite yummy. Quick, too.
Kevin Smith's Mallrats and Chasing Amy. Perfect illustrations of why his work is so wonderful, from either end of the spectrum. And perfect in that order, from dick and fart jokes to a genuinely moving love story with an open and honest ending. Can't wait for Clerks 2. And I didn't think I'd be saying that.
Coldplay's X&Y. Great music to clean to. Have to admit I was a little swamped by the overproduction on the first few listens, but underneath the bluster and bombast are the delicate and heartfelt songs that brought them here in the first place. 'Til Kingdom Come', the final track originally written for Johnny Cash, is still a gem. I was singing it all the way home in my head, and couldn't wait to listen to it again. You already know whether you like them or not.
Terry Moore's 'Strangers In Paradise'. I'm gonna keep raving about this comic book til y'all go out there and discover it, too. Hey, I was a decade late, so don't worry about being a little behind. One day Hollywood will wake up and make the movie. If they don't screw it up, you'll see just what I mean. 'Love and Rockets' has also crossed my palm this evening (I don't just read comics with lesbians in, I promise. These just happen to be very good.)
Ben and Jerry's Chcolate Fudge Brownie. Until I can find somewhere local that stocks Haagen Dazs' Chocolate Midnight Cookies, this is the next best thing. My freezer ain't that good, so I usually have to eat it within a couple days. Dang!
Ranks Of The Freaks Blog. Or at least that's what Paula's calling it at the moment (an observation, not a criticism!) Both entertaining and thought provoking, particularly recently. Been on my blogroll (is that a deliberate pun on bogroll? Do the Yanks get that?) for ages, but always worth a visit. Not that the others aren't! (Gonna get accused of favouritism now...)
The Simpsons. Underground American animation. It'll never catch on, it's far too smart.
There. Much better than shouting at a computer screen displaying train timetable information. Oh, and my toilet works again, too. Someday soon I'll tell you the tale of how I blew it up. Yeah, you read that right. Anyway. Soon. I promise.
