Life's What You Make It
'I did not regularly watch This Life, but I caught the final episode and was appalled at the drugs, booze and worst of all, simulated sex between homosexuals... We should complain more often and perhaps our comments would have some weight in preventing such trash being shown.' :Daily Mail
Ah, happiness is a rant from everyone's favourite arbiters of taste and decency. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Ooh, c'mon, give us a hug!
So, anyway, I've heard rumours that after 10 years, classic BBC drama This Life will be returning. Just a one off special, mind, but still, a definite reason to be cheerful. BBC 2 will also be repeating the full original run, but I had a sneak preview thanks to my magic video on demand service on cable. And it's absolute pleasure.
I remember watching it as a teenager vividly. It was great because it felt so exciting to watch at that time. As ridiculous as it sounds now, this was the mid 90's, Britpop, Loaded, Cool Britannia (cringe). It really did feel like something was going on. This Life embraced that, and did it in a way that was believable. It's funny watching it a decade on. Back then, the characters seemed so much older than I did, a different world. They were in their early 20's, settling into working life, so far from my experiences at home and at school. But now, they feel young to me. In the years that have passed, I've leapfrogged them. It's a weird feeling that I fear we're all going to have to get used to as the years continue to drift by. Whatever happened to the likely lads, you may well ask.
Anyway, hopefully it'll be a fun reunion with old friends... Anyone else gonna be watching?
