Well, what a quite delightful weekend that was. Always a shame to see the sun slip over the horizon on a Sunday evening, but all things must pass as they say. Having a remarkably cheerful Sunday evening reflecting on the fun of the last 48 hours. Here's some of the lovely things that have made my weekend.
Headed home on Friday evening, and watched Grumpy Old Men with the folks, all laughing along together loudly. Is it worrying that I completely identify with everything they say at the tender age of 26?
Saturday morning. Did some shopping in the place of my birth, Watford. Got over the shock of finding one of my favourite clothes stores, Moist, having closed down with the crazy sale in Virgin. CD albums two quid a piece? Yes please. I'll take *counts* sixteen. Heehee!
Got my eyes tested, due to the fact that I am having to move further and further down the tube platform to read the electronic indicators. Turns out I am a bit shortsighted, but since I don't drive, there's no need for glasses. I'm almost a little disappointed, having convinced myself that spectacles were an inevitability. I know it's somewhat patronising to those of you who have to wear glasses, but I was quite looking forward to something a bit different. I guess I could wear empty frames, but I fear that's treading even further down the path of the pisstake...
Back into London for an evening of music and dancing. French House (there it is again) legend Alan Braxe had his world DJ debut at The Key in King's Cross, and me, Tobes and his mate Marco were there to witness it. He was the non-Daft Punk half of Stardust what did 'Music Sounds Better With You'. Yeah! I know! Got to say hello and shake his hand beforehand, which was great fun, cos he's possibly the most french looking person you could imagine, non-chalant, 5 o'clock shadow, fag hanging out of mouth, and looking, well, French. And his set with Kris Menace was great stuff. Lots of French masterpieces cranked up to 11, including bits of 'Music Sounds Better', Thomas Bangalter's 'Together', Lifelike and Kris's 'Discopolis' and a frankly jaw dropping remix of Laurie Anderson's avant garde 80's electro epic musing on American expansionism and the cold threat of technology, 'O Superman'. I wasn't expecting that! Marvellous.
And so to Sunday. I was going to go and see Mission Impossible 3, but I overslept. A lot. So it's been an afternoon of football (sorry Spurs...), Dr Who, The Mark Steel lecture on Sigmund Freud, peeling price labels off of CDs, and listening to Sunday tunes. As I write this I'm listening to Lambchop's Aw C'mon, No You C'mon double LP. All too forgetful this evening to do a proper list of tunes, but there will be another one soon, as well as the usual rubbish. Have a good week!
