Best Foot Forward
Oops. Just caught myself dancing around to Kenny Loggins - 'Footloose' at full volume. And it's after midnight. Sorry neighbourinos.
Yes, I am very much in the mood for some fantabulosa cheesy film music. I think it all stems from playing Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes - '(I've Had) The Time Of My Life' at the wedding reception I DJed at on Saturday night. Oh yes. And don't act so surprised. Sure, I got some very strange looks from the dancefloor when it first started, but as soon as that chorus hit... BOOM! Dancefloor mayhem. Girls going crazy, and blokes giving themselves a hernia trying to do the lift. Know your audience.
(Fact fans, I've only ever sat all the way through Dirty Dancing once, for a film studies class at University. The only film they took a register for. And only for the boys. The girl sat next to me started crying at the end, so I turned to her and offered a few reassuring words "Oh, come on,love, it's not that bad. And it's nearly over anyway.")
But in my book, the ultimate film/music crossover involves the sublime Olivia Newton John. What's that? Grease? Nah, mate. Any soundtrack that allows John Travolta to sing is right out of the window. Even the Bee Gees realised that much. No, this is something even further up the camp tree. Just check out this video...
Olivia Newton John and ELO with 'Xanadu' from the movie...er.. Xanadu. Possibly my favourite music video of all time.
I am not gay.
