It's Tricky
This speech is my recital, I think it's very vital
To rock a rhyme, that's right on time
It's Tricky is the title, here we go...
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky...it's Tricky Tricky Tricky Tricky
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky...Tr-tr-tr-tricky Tricky Trrrrrrrrrrricky
You know it!
I dedicate This to Jam Master Jay

Troublesome Waters

Just rolled back in from Islington Vue. Managed to dodge the seductive charms of Scary Movie 4, Basic Instinct 2 and The Pink Panther, as they're not released yet, so we finally made it to Walk The Line, after finding it booked out last time. And what a unique pleasure it was. A truly life affirming tale of success, failure, redemption, love and fucking great music! I came straight home, my Cash albums were straight on the turntables and I spun the movie back in my mind's eye. Now I'm through to his work on American Recordings, showing that his talent never dimmed through the years. 'The Man Comes Around' always puts a broad wild smile on my face. Which is pretty impressive for a song about judgement day! I might watch the 'Hurt' video later. But... well, there's nowhere to go after that.
So before then, a concession to the alt.country class of 2006. As I was killing time before the film, I took another sneaky trip through the valhalla of HMV on Oxford Street. I left clutching the 7 inch of 'Rise Up With Fists!!' by Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins. The sweet as pie singer from Rilo Kiley kicking back on the porch in Tennesee. Just wonderful, and far better than the playing-it-for-laughs video suggests. Indeed, the lyrics are deliciously applicable to a pivotal scene in Walk The Line.
Are you really that pure, sir?
Thought I saw you in Vegas
It was not pretty, but she was...
(not your wife)
Ever get the feeling there's some guy up there pulling the strings? Too many coincidences, I think. Anyway, I'm finding these Country music folk spinning out the feelings in my head better than most others out there at the moment. The fact that Bright Eyes appears on her album more or less makes it essential for me now.
And speaking of essential, the Art Of Noises' A-Z of music continues with the letter M. (No wonder i had a Sesame Street cake...) Possibly the hardest choice I've had to make so far, having considered Ms Minogue, Madonna, Missy Elliot, Miles Davis, Massive Attack, The Magnetic Fields, Mr McCartney, The Manics, Masters At Work, Mercury Rev, Michael Jackson, Mogwai and My Bloody Valentine. I finally settled on the peerless Marvin Gaye with his What's Going On album. More nourishment for the soul.
Just one last thing. The birthday cakes was a mock up, I'm afraid, stolen heartlessly from a boy called Brandon. Cool name, kid. Hope you had a nice birthday. By the looks of the cake, I bet you had a blast! Speaking of which, happy birthday to my kid brother Richard. Not that he reads this thing. As I far as I'm aware, anyway...

What's Happening Brother

And so Delrico Bandito enters the terrible twos. Well, it did several days ago, to be quite honest, but I forgot to mention it. I'm still enjoying writing here, and I hope you enjoy reading it too. I was caught in a conversation between dancefloor action at London Loves in Soho on Saturday night. A brand new friend was explaining how he felt that Blogs and MySpace were an exhibition of people's inner desire to be celebrities. To be famous and to gain attention. Maybe he has a point! I'm not sure.
I don't have any particular desire for fame, it must be said. (I've been close enough to fame to see both sides, and quite frankly, you can keep it.) Sure, this takes a certain level of self importance. Yet... if people don't want to read this, they don't have to. I do it for my own amusement, although it's always great to have your comments. I like writing funny things, or sharing my love for cool things like great records or films or books or whatever, that'll hopefully brighten up the lives of someone else, and give the artists some much need recognition!
And in this vein, i think it's about time for a nice list of songs that are filling my brain with joy this evening. Eclectic as ever, but I'm feeling in a pretty dopey, soulful mood, so I guess they all share that. Yeah, even the emo! Heheh.
1. Ryan Leslie Feat Snoop Dogg - 'Just Right'
2. Frankie Knuckles - 'The Whistle Song'
3. Kings Of Tomorrow - 'Finally (Nu Yorican Soul Remix)'
4. Mogwai - 'We're No Here'
5. Lifelike - 'Adventure'
6. Kanye West Feat GLC and Consequence - 'Spaceship'
7. My Chemical Romance - 'I'm Not Ok (I Promise)'
8. The Editors - 'Munich'
9. Coldplay - 'Talk (Thin White Duke Remix)'
10. Panic! At The Disco - 'I Write Sins Not Tragedies'
11. Kim Carnes - 'I'll Be There Where The Heart Is'
12. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On LP
Have fun!

I'm So Tired
Yeah, totally cream crackered. Suffering from poorliness lurgee (oh woe is quite literally me!) and DJing late at my wonderful friend from work's leaving do last night have taken their toll. My eyes are more red than white, and I was dropping off standing up in HMV this evening (sorry for lapsing for so long. Here are the latest singles from We Are Scientists, Fall Out Boy, Graham Coxon and The Rakes. It has been 2 weeks since my last confession. I mean purchase.)
But all of this pales in comparison to what i just did. I need to do loads of washing up, so I've just been filling the bowl with hot water. Instead of squirting in washing up liquid, i poured in a liberal dose of Robinson Apple and Blackcurrant Barley Water. And only twigged when it didn't go all bubbly.
I think I need to get some sleep.
