Sometimes I love the way things work out.
Last weekend I went to the Edinburgh Festival.
Originally, I was going to go to Reading, but that was with my ex-girlfriend and her friends. When we split, I gave up my ticket, and decided to do something else instead.
So at Edinburgh I had a really great time and saw lots of wonderful shows. My highlights were Teenage Kicks, the play of John Peel's life which was both funny and moving, The Slut in the Hut where Tim Key played a delightfully haphazard poet, and Straight Outta Chippenham where Wil Hodgson told tales of the reality of life in Middle England, punk rock porn and his my little pony collection.
Another great night was We Need Answers, a quiz based on the Any Question Answered texting service, where comedians went head to head to be crowned top dog. I saw the final between Paul Sinha and Josie Long. I even had one of the questions I texted in asked ("Which is the more sexually suggestive, A banana or a cucumber?" The answer was banana. Obviously.) Paul eventually won the contest, and the top prize of a mobility scooter, but it was Josie who unquestionably won my heart. Funny girls are always attractive, and she's a smart cute indie funny girl. Sadly I didn't get to see her acclaimed festival show, so next time she does a live tour, I'll be booking tickets. Because I respect her talent.
This was late Sunday night, effectively the end of the festival, so Monday meant shopping. Most notably at Edinburgh's wonderful Avalanche records. Amongst my purchases was an LP by Bikini Kill, a 90's Riot Grrrl punk act the ex turned me on to.
It's an ace record. Another triumph for Edinburgh, via Washington State.
Anyway, today I decide to look up more on Josie Long via Google. I hit her wikipedia page.
And in the photo she's wearing a Bikini Kill T-Shirt...
And, er, pen on her face.
Everything falls into place.
